Spoke too soon
It turns out that the cpu scaling thing is still not working correctly. Weirdness. I am also having a hell of a time getting the Dell 5720 VZW card to work. It may be, though, that it’s not properly activated on their network. I’m going to have to persue that further.
On the other hand, though, sound id working again, and now even the blue tooth is working among a few other things. And I also reclaimed that water 40GB partition, so all in all, rebuilding the laptop was worth the effort.
