Peller Estates 2006 Cabernet Franc
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to have a taste of this rare treat. I’ve always been a big fan of ice wines, but I’ve never had one quite like this before. For starters, this interesting treat is a red ice wine. Before this weekend, I’ve never actually seen a red ice wine, never mind having a chance to sample one. As you would expect with any ice wine, it’s rich and silky on the pallet. It has an aroma that’s reminiscent of raspberries and red plums, and on the tongue, it conjures honey, lavender, and red berries. I would very much like an opportunity to sample this wine again, but at $65 – $75 a bottle for a 375 ml, it might be a while before I get another chance. What gives this wine it’s unique character (and color) is the Cabernet Franc grape, this wine being made entirely of this variety.
