Houses I’m eyeing

« 4 March 2009 | 9:40 | news | No Comments »

Jamie and I and the animals are starting to outgrow the condo. We’ve been making an effort to eliminate things we don’t need, but it’s still pretty cramped. We even still have a storage unit.

So, at this point, the market looks so friendly for buyers (prices are falling, and interest rates are pretty darn [...]

Fed up with Kubuntu

« 4 March 2009 | 9:25 | news | No Comments »

Actually, w/ KDE4. I’m just sick of the instability it introduced into my laptop. I’ve had an old partition on my drive from when the laptop’s previous own was dual booting, which is currently going to waste, too. So, this weekend, I’m making another backup of my home directory, and moving it to another machine, [...]

Really BAD news :(

« 3 March 2009 | 12:12 | news | No Comments »

So, I’ve been in and out of the doctor’s office a lot over the past couple weeks. Yesterday, I went to my eye doctor again, and to my general practitioner’s office.

So, as it turns out, the retina in my right eye is too thin in the upper right corner of my eye. What does [...]

Einstein @ Home

« 26 February 2009 | 9:07 | news | No Comments »

There is a distributed computing project based on the boinc architecture that is working to interpret data from a couple of large intereometers in the hopes of detecting evidence of Einsteins proposed gravitational waves.
I joined that project a few months back, and also joined a “team” within that project. The concept of teams within [...]

KDE 4 woes

« 25 February 2009 | 10:17 | news, rantings | No Comments »

So, I’ve been running Kubuntu on my work laptop since like my second week here (can you believe it’s been almost 8 months, now?). I gotta tell you, I loved KDE 3, and I was running Kubuntu 8.04. I was in love. The only things that did not work on the laptop were the bluetooth [...]

decomissioned Gomer locator

« 25 February 2009 | 9:55 | news | No Comments »

Yah, umm. I stopped working on that when I was still working at Cognizant. Also, as it turns out, the location based services in my evdo card are not supported in the driver for the linux kernel. And frakly, I’m just too busy, it’s not that important, and there are already similar products out there [...]

Long over due

« 25 February 2009 | 9:49 | news | No Comments »

So, as you have guessed, I’ve been busy busy busy. This time, there’s been an attack on my free time from all sides.

So let me start with the bad news, I guess.

My girl friend’s step father has passed away. He had been diagnosed with bladder cancer early last year. And despite his determination and effort [...]

on the road

« 21 July 2008 | 21:16 | news | No Comments »

Well, I’ve been at Fresenius for 3 whole weeks, now, and today makes week 4. And already I’m on the road. I am blogging to you from Portsmouth, NH, using my trusty EVDO card, on my nifty company issued Dell D830 running Kubuntu. I worked from home and drove up here a couple hours ago. [...]

To anyone in the New Bedford, MA area …

« 24 June 2008 | 14:38 | news | No Comments »

I read about those post cards that someone’s been sending out, particularly to the city council, with the picture of that eye-sore on Coggeshall St. and I’ve been itching to see one of them. If anyone has one, please let me know, or better yet, scan it and email it to me. I would love [...]

Moving on

« 24 June 2008 | 14:34 | news | No Comments »

For those who have not heard, I officially turned in my resignation at Cognizant on Thursday, June 12 2008. So, that makes this coming Thursday my last day here. I have officially taken a position as Security Engineer at Fresenius Medical Care North America in Lexington. w00t! I start on Monday the 30th.

gomer locator

« 3 June 2008 | 19:00 | news | No Comments »

I added a new feature to the site. It’s a plug-in I am working on for word press. click on the link “gomer locater” at the top of the page to see it in action. Once I polish the code and make it less site specific, I’ll make it available as a download. I’ll also [...]

Inactivity

« 13 May 2008 | 18:18 | news | No Comments »

Sorry about the inactivity, folks. I’ve been busy with work, and I have 2 folks in the family who are sick (terribly bad stuff), and I’ve been working on a side project which has been taking up what little time health issues and work leave behind.
So, briefly, the project I’m working on is a [...]

Camping

« 18 April 2008 | 17:12 | news | 1 Comment »

I’m going to be camping during memorial day weekend. I’ll be posting details, soon. I still need to decide where we’re going, and then I need to reserve some camp sites. If anyone is interested, please contact me. And as I have more details, I’ll post them here.

Incoming

« 1 April 2008 | 18:31 | news | No Comments »

Be on the lookout for a new page, soon. I’ve got a little command line network calculator I write in ruby that I’ve been using a lot at work. I’ve recently webified it, so it will run either as a command line app, or as a CGI. I’ll be putting it up here soon, along [...]

Pass the IR

« 24 March 2008 | 14:12 | news | No Comments »

I’ve been kicking around the idea of playing around with an IR pass filter. Come to find out, my Evolt E-300 is one of the more IR sensitive DSLRs out there, too. This is pretty exciting, because I wasn’t sure if I was ready to invest yet another camera. Now, I need to pick a [...]
